so me and kristin were at the mall tonight returning a non-functional shower caddy to sears. after doing so, it was time to wander around the mall. everything was going smoothly until i heard a familiar song coming from the express store (the express men half, to be exact, but it was playing it both parts). i stopped kristin and we backtracked a few steps. sure enough, it was lansing-dreiden's "glass corridor" (you may recognize it as the song from my first film project- see February 26th, 2005's entry). for good or bad, the universe is a little off kilter.

btw- since i'm done with ncsu, they may be revoking my webspace in the near future. prepare for the onslaught of red x's and broken links.

me and the other are living quite well. we've got our place almost all set up nicely and i'm enjoying my study. we call it "room 2" but it's where my comp is set up, complete with vinyl collection and guest bed. it's been fun stuff and the going is good.

jack daniels reminded me about the 5 year high school reunion coming up in 2006. good idea, or no? i don't care honestly, but people can be uppity about these sort of things. network amongst your friends.

the day we had been fearing has finally come

my cat Rascal died this morning. he would have been 19 in December. i got him as a valentine's day gift from my mom when i was 4. he outlived all the other animals, survived three moves, and even had his tail run over a few times. when i was little, he knew when i was sick and would sleep with me at night. i taught him how to hug like a koala and he was the only cat i ever knew that could play fetch. in his later years, he started to go deaf and became much more senile, and we knew the end was near.

he will be missed greatly and will never be replaced

tonight, i ate two pounds of steak. yeah, i'm that guy your dad wishes he was.

classes are going swell-like. i spoke with my com advisor the other day and i am indeed graduating come December. here's my semester forecast:

"my morning class"
...cause i really don't know the name of it, but i need it to graduate. it's a "linking course" that pits me and a pad load of "design-school-rejects-turned-visual-arts-majors" in a class to learn about religious music to further our appreciation of said topic. seriously, i have no idea what's going on or what the mission objective of this class is. sure, i have the syllabus (that i had to print up myself) and i looked for a purpose, but i can't read so good anymore so i don't know. on Tuesday we watched a video about a 3,000 year-old indian ritual that apparently died in 1970. somehow the world still went on and i'm assuming pajha made it to indian heaven (i nodded off as he was building a fire for 8th time).

speaking course 1
that's my pet name for this class. it's ant 254 (language and culture) and it seems all right. we focus on language itself and how it functions in cultures. the professor is this doddery old woman who speaks very softly and smiles a lot. occasionally, she flies off the vector path and starts talking about swedish/dutch conferences, giggling to herself all the while. the class is not amused and the girl beside is pissed because she's too good for such hijinx.

basic acting
not much to be said here. i signed up for it to get (ah ha) basic acting experience and because it seemed easy enough to pass. i knew the professor who going to teach it, but she had to have a bypass surgery of some sort so they got another guy to take over the class. he's an old-school acting professor who knows a lot about theory and such and i might actually have to try to score an a, as opposed to flying by the seat of my dungarees like usual.

speaking class 2
this is my linguistics and language class. it's about the exact same thing as ant 254. my notes parallel each other and in fact, it takes place in the exact same room. i got nothing witty to say about this class except "to boldly go where no one has gone before" is a split infinitive and the creators of star trek took a collective piss in the eye of prescriptive rules.

i got the footage for the final film project back today (i noticed i do say project a lot, as per my 04-11 entry suggested). there's high and lows.

some scenes look phenomenal; everything about them rocks, especially the clarity. unfortunately, some outdoor scenes are way overexposed (kinda like that wire song that my bloody valentine stoled). overall, i think i can make something spiffy out of it.

thanks to all that helped. i won't let you guys down. btw- i aced the first film project.

in mlb news, i've decided my new favorite team is going to be the washington nationals. and why not? not like charlotte is going to get a team anytime soon. even if they did, we'd find a way to turn the players into criminals (you know what i'm talking about).

it's braggin time- i kicked some ass in ultimate today.

the kid next door is blown away by the fact that i only have school for two and a half hours on Thursday (he did the math) and no school on Friday. i think i'm his new role model. i'm going to teach him how to light flint on fire tomorrow.

quick update on the film project- i edited it some more and i'm down to 56 seconds on it. that's pretty good, but it still needs some more polish. look for the finished product to occur within two weeks max.

it snowed for a brief bit today. it was...interestingly superb.

well, i promised stills

that's all i want to show for now. the actual film quality (in motion) is very strange looking. it has this old-school, yellowish feel to it, like i recorded it a long time ago (especially that fourth still). and some scenes are brighter or darker than others, even though we lit for proper lighting. this is what happens when you use a camera from western germany i suppose. i can fix it later. and yes, i'm aware the content is boring. i cannot stress enough that this is a one-minute exercise. we'll get crazier next time.

now i have to write to lansing-dreiden about using their music...

it is, by far, the ugliest looking exam schedule i've had here at state, but i'm really not that afraid of it. the hardest exam will be film theory.

people have asked me what i'm doing over the break. as soon as i find a map for illustrative purposes, i'll go into detail about my planned adventures.

except for the slight lack of money, this is one of the best early-decembers yet.
